Tünde Szabó, Secretary of State for Sport at the Ministry of Human Resources, is particularly pleased that 173 Hungarian athletes will be able to take part in the Tokyo Olympics starting on Friday.
"It is a great thing that so many athletes will represent Hungary in such a difficult situation. I am very satisfied, because the number of athletes has not been so high in the last two Olympics," said Tünde Szabó on the current M1 channel, who highlighted that the Hungarians will start in Japan.
The Secretary of State said that it had already been said in many places that 15 medals could be a reality from the delegation, and he thought that this would indeed be achieved by the Hungarians.
“We hope they return home with the most shiny medals,” he added.
"It will be an Olympics that everyone will remember, whether it is an athlete, a sports leader or a sports professional," said Tünde Szabó.
He stressed that it was the job of the sports leaders to seize every opportunity to support the athletes so that they could prepare to the best of their ability for the five-ring games. That is why, even during a very difficult period due to the coronavirus epidemic, it was ensured that the competitors could play sports, and it was in their interest that the facilities were closed at the latest compared to the sports powers and opened at the earliest.
The Secretary of State expects a precise, excellent organization from the Japanese, as he is accustomed to, and according to him, the staff of the Hungarian Olympic Committee already in Japan has confirmed that everything is happening on the spot so far.
Szabó believed that the Olympics "will not be the same without spectators", but during the domestic competitions in the bubble system they could already adapt to the special conditions, which thus do not reach them as a novelty.
