Due to the coronavirus epidemic and the emergency ordered in the Japanese capital, the usual ceremony at that time, which is also the beginning of the countdown to the start, was missed.
The 21 buildings, built on 44 hectares, are expected to house 18,000 athletes, coaches and sports leaders during the Games. The Olympic Village is usually a kind of partisan, a meeting place for athletes from all over the world, but this time it will be different. Competitors can expect a different atmosphere, they have to keep a distance of two meters, they have to wear a mask, they can eat alone in the restaurant, they have separated the machines in the gym with plexiglass, they can't bring alcohol into their room. All athletes may move into the village five days before their performance and must leave it two days after their competition.
The Olympic Village will be open until August 22nd.
Since last weekend, more and more delegations have arrived in Japan, with roughly 2,200 participants already preparing on the spot. So far, two participants from Uganda, one each from Serbia, Lithuania and Israel, have tested positive for coronavirus.
