Tokyo 2020 - North Korean athletes do not start games

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, athletes from the Korean GDR will not participate in the summer Tokyo Olympics.

This was announced on its website by the country’s sports organization after the local five-ring committee agreed in a video conference with sports leaders and other officials on 25 March.

The decision was made to "protect their competitors from the global health crisis caused by Covid-19."

The Tokyo Olympics, postponed from last year to this year due to the pandemic, is scheduled to begin on July 23rd.

North Korea is one of the few countries that has not reported any coronavirus disease so far. Pyongyang closed its borders last year to prevent the virus from entering, but observers say the disease is present in the country.
