The number of those infected is rising in Tokyo

More than two weeks before the start of the Olympics, the number of coronavirus infections in Tokyo is rising.

The competent authority reported 920 new cases on Wednesday, the highest number since 13 May, almost two months ago. Many locals fear that the five-ring games will only make matters worse, but organizers promise: everything will be safe.

There is a health emergency in Tokyo until Sunday, and the government is considering extending the restrictions by a month until the end of the Olympics.

According to media reports, the organizers, the government, the Tokyo city administration and the International Olympic and Paralympic Committee will decide in a five-sided meeting on Thursday whether to further restrict spectator admission and declare the Olympics and Paralympics partially closed. According to the news, no spectators will be admitted to the opening and some of the tournaments at all. Based on previous decisions, foreign fans will not be able to be there in the stands in Tokyo, and there will be only a very limited number of Japanese.

The Tokyo Olympics, which was postponed from last year to this year due to the pandemic, will begin on July 23 and run until August 8. 176 Hungarian athletes take part in the games.
