The US and Canada were grouped together in the hockey club

The two North American rivals, Canada and the United States, were placed in the same group in Wednesday’s draw for next year’s World Hockey Championships in Riga and Minsk.

Defending champion Finland, as well as Germany, Norway, Italy, Kazakhstan and the host Latvians, the eighth B will play in the Latvian capital. Riga will also host two quarter-final matches.

The other group will be based in Minsk, where, in addition to co-host Belarusians, teams from Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovakia, Denmark and Britain will fight. In addition to the group matches, the Minsk Arena will also be home to two quarterfinals, the two semi-finals and the substitutes.

The exact timing of the tournament is still uncertain, scheduled to take place between May 7 and 23, 2021, but as a result of the coronavirus epidemic, it may be held two weeks later to allow national championships more time to run the season.

This year’s World Cup, which would have been hosted by Switzerland, was canceled due to the pandemic.
