Jannis Antetokunmpo, a Milwaukee Bucks star, has been named the North American Basketball Championship (NBA) best defensive player of the year, making him the fifth to have earned that title and MVP of the season.
The 25-year-old Greek basketball player won 75 first places on the jury of 100 experts and received a total of 432 points. Second place went to Los Angeles Lakers basketball player Anthony Davis (200 points / 14 first place), while third went to Rudy Gobert (Utah Jazz, 187 points / 6 first place) the previous two years.
Prior to Antetokunmpo, Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson and Kevin Garnett were also MVPs and best defenders of their careers, but only Jordan and Olajuwon managed this feat in a season. The Greek basketball player of Nigerian descent can join them now because - after winning the MVP title last year - experts say he has a good chance of applying for it again this year.
