Vettel shocked the former world champion

Jenson Button received a minor shock because Sebastian Vettel did not renew his contract with Ferrari.

The 40-year-old British star told Sky Sports that if the team removed the four-time World Cup-winning German driver, the Italians would have committed "madness".

“Last year he showed how fast he can be, and although he had difficult moments when Charles Leclerc performed very well, he eventually coped with this mental challenge and struggled back,” Button commented on Vettel, adding that the 32-year-old German rider is just that. a person that any F1 team owner would love to see in one of their cars.

"There's something in the background. It's very strange to me what happened, and it's still hard to believe we won't see Sebastian in the red race car next year," Button said.

Ferrari announced last week that it will not extend with Vettel, whose contract expires at the end of the year. The German will be replaced by the Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. in 2021.

The German press wrote that the Italians had offered Vettel a one-year agreement with reduced pay, which the contestant refused. Vettel later said the financial issues did not influence the joint decision with Ferrari.

This year's Formula 1 season has not yet started due to the coronavirus epidemic, with the field scheduled to compete in Austria for the first time in early July.
