Formula One drivers have chosen world champion Max Verstappen as the best driver of the season.
The final result of the vote was announced on the website of the World Car Speed Championship on Thursday. Red Bull’s Dutch driver finished 21st ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, last year’s winner.
The British driver of the Mercedes received 192 points from his peers and the third, also British Lando Norris (McLaren), scored 110 points.
Fernando Alonso (Alpine), a two-time world champion who returned to Formula 1 after a two-year hiatus, took sixth place in the drivers ’ranking, finishing tenth in last year’s World Cup points race.
Each voter was able to nominate the top ten contestants, get the top 25 points, and earn one point for tenth place on the list.
Previously, team leaders also voted Verstappen the best of the season. For the first time in his 24-year Dutch career, he became world champion, interrupting Hamilton's winning streak.y
