After the teams, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) also agreed on a schedule to cut the cost limit for the Formula 1 World Speed Car Championship for the coming years.
According to the provision, the cost limit will be $ 145 million next year, 140 million in 2022, and 135 million in 2023-25. The FIA expects 21 racing seasons from 2021, and the amounts do not include pilots ’salaries or engine costs.
"Formula 1 has won. This decision is very important for our sport, which has been financially unsustainable for some time and has risked its own future," said ZL Brown, McLaren's team boss after the decision was made public.
The FIA World Motorsport Council has also approved amendments to the aerodynamic tests: this means that teams finishing behind in the World Championship points race will be able to test more in the wind tunnel before the upcoming season.
In Formula 1, a cost limit of $ 175 million was planned for 2021, but the parties had to renegotiate it because of the coronavirus pandemic. Several teams have indicated that they would only agree to an amount not much higher than $ 100 million, while Ferrari stated during the negotiations that it did not want to farm for less than $ 145 million.
In the current season of the World Speed Car Championships, due to the pandemic, the battles in Bahrain, Vietnam, China, the Netherlands, Spain, Azerbaijan and Canada, respectively, were postponed after the Australian Grand Prix, while Monaco and France were canceled. The first race could be the Austrian Grand Prix on July 5, followed by the British Grand Prix on July 19 and the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 2. The management of Formula 1 trusts to hold 15-18 races.
