So far, nothing is certain about the Formula 1 season opener

The organizers of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, scheduled for the season opener, as well as the government of the state of Victoria, are constantly discussing with the drivers of the World Car Speed Championship whether the first race of the year can be held in March.

A provincial leadership spokesman told the British news agency Reuters on Tuesday that the most important thing for them is to keep the population healthy, but in the meantime they want to maintain the opportunity to host all of this year’s major sporting events.

On Monday, several international motorsport magazines also reported that the F1 season could start in Bahrain instead of Melbourne, and the Australian race could be replaced at a later date. This was justified by the introduction in Australia of strict measures, including 14 days of compulsory quarantine, for entrants due to the coronavirus epidemic.

"Further details are expected in the coming weeks, following the conclusion of the negotiations," the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix wrote in their statement.

Tickets have not yet begun to be sold in Australia. Formula One drivers scheduled the first race of the record-length 23-race race calendar to Melbourne on March 21, while the Bahrain GP was scheduled for a week later, on March 28.

Last season’s opening race weekend could not be held in Melbourne due to the coronavirus epidemic and did not take place later, and the season could only start in July in Austria and ended up with only 17 runners instead of 22. There were also two competitions in Bahrain last year, the Bahrain Grand Prix in late November and the Sahiri Grand Prix in early December.

The Hungarian Grand Prix took place on July 19 last year, behind closed doors at the Hungaroringen, and this year's calendar includes the race weekend in Mogyoród on 1 August.
