Renault also announced the return of Alonso

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is back in Formula 1, the Renault team has announced.

The agreement between the two parties was already reported in the press on Tuesday, but the official announcement was made on Wednesday. The Spanish driver, who will be 39 at the end of the month, will take the place of Daniel Ricciardo, who is leaving for McLaren, at the end of the current season. The team did not report on the duration of his contract, he only wrote in his statement that he will "join the Renault DP World F1 Team for the coming seasons".

Alonso achieved the greatest successes of his career with Renault, winning the World Stable Championship in 2005 and 2006, where he ran from 2002 to 2006 and then in 2008 and 2009.

The Spanish rider completed his last Formula One race so far in the 2018 season finale, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and has since tested himself in several categories, such as starting the Dakar Rally this year and being a member of the winning team in the 2018 and the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hour Car Race.
