Michael Jordan founds a NASCAR racing team

The Lord of the Air is also trying his luck in car racing. The lover of the race will launch a NASCAR team this time, with African-American Bubba Wallace as the number one racer.

Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan is teaming up with car racer Denny Hamlin to form his own team that will feature in the U.S. NASCAR series.

The news was reported by three-time Daytona 500 winner Hamlin, adding that their driver will be the current only African-American racer in the field, Darrell "Bubba" Wallace.

“We met Michael Jordan 11 years ago at a game on the then Charlotte Bobcats basketball team and soon became good friends, and now we’re taking that relationship to a new level,” wrote 39-year-old Hamlin, one of the chances for this year’s NASCAR championship title, on social media.

The rules of the U.S. tournament series allow a competitor to own a stake in another team. Jordan will thus be the main owner of the new stable, which will start appearing in the series next year, and his name and main sponsor will be announced later, Hamlin said.

Jordan, 57, also owns Charlotte Hornets in the NBA.
