Japanese racer replaces Kvjat at Alpha Tauri

Japan’s Cunoda Juki will take over from outgoing Russian driver Danyiil Kvjat with Formula One World Championship Series Alpha Tauri.

The stable announced on Wednesday the contract of the twenty-year-old rider, who was in Formula 2 this year and finished third in the points race.

“Every car racer’s dream of being in Formula 1 is for me, too, so I’m very happy,” said Cunoda, who grew up at the Red Bull Stable Academy.

The 20-year-old talent will be the first Japanese rider in the series since the end of 2014, Kobajasi Kamui’s farewell.

The Alpha Tauri said goodbye to Danyiil Kvjat after two seasons, and another car will be driven by Frenchman Pierre Gasly next year.
