Brazil Grand Prix - Hamilton is penalized, Sainz is third
Following the Brazilian Grand Prix at Formula One on Sunday, World Champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was fined, finishing seventh, not third.
During the race, the Safety Car let go of the field two laps before the fall, Hamilton immediately followed Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) and then attacked Alexander Albon (Red Bull) of Thailand, but collided with his rival in one corner rolled.
The judges imposed a five-second penalty on this maneuver for the six-time World Champion, who accepted the decision.
With Hamilton falling behind, Carlos Sainz Jr. (McLaren) of Spain advanced from fourth to third place and finished first in the podium in his career.
The race was won by Max Verstappen (Red Bull) of the Netherlands, while Gasly finished second.
