In the third year after joining in 2026, the factory Audi team wants to fight for Formula 1 race victories, with which they hope that they will be able to achieve success even sooner due to the modification of the engine regulations.
At the end of October, the German car manufacturer announced that it will enter the elite category of motorsport from 2026, the engines will be produced by Volkswagen, while the Sauber team will be responsible for assembling and preparing the racing machines.
"We have signed for a four-year period from 2026 to 2030, and we want to be in a position after three years to be able to fight for race victories," said Adam Baker, director of Audi's Formula 1 program. "We have to remain realistic, the first and the second year can also be very tough, it's hard to predict," he added.
The new engine regulations will come into effect from 2026, and Baker says this will allow teams new to F1 to become competitive sooner.
"First of all, the budget limit controls the path to success. Every team will have the same chance and everyone will have to face the same challenges, and these will be as huge as they have always been in Formula 1," said Baker, who, according to if they do a good job, they could even be among the top in 2026.
There are already 220 employees working at the headquarters of the Audi F1 team in Neuburg, and according to plans, this number will swell to 300 by the middle of next year.
