Al-Attijah and Bort are a partial success in the Dakar, with Peterhansel at the top of the complex

For motorists, the three-time winner, Qatar Nasser al-Attijah, was the fastest on Monday in the second leg of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, while for motorcyclists, Spain’s Juan Barreda Bort took the lead in the composite victory.

On the third day of the world’s toughest off-road race, the field had to cover a total of 685 kilometers, of which 457 kilometers were the measured distance.

Defending champion and hitherto leading the composite Carlos Sainz, the Spanish duo Lucas Cruz (Mini) finished third this time, pushing Stéphane Peterhansel, Edouard Boulanger (Mini), a French doubles leader by more than 6.5 minutes, to finish second on Monday. al-Attijah and Mathieu Baumel (Toyota).

In motorcycling, Barreda Bort ran the 25th stage success of her career at the Dakar, gaining an overall more than six-minute advantage over defending champion and second-placed American Ricky Brabec on Monday.

The Hungarian duo Balázs Szalay and László Bunkoczi slipped back significantly due to their technical problem on Sunday, and only started later on Monday's race day.

In the case of truckers, Károly Fazekas, Péter Albert Horn, Péter Csákány trio (Scania) and Zsolt Darázsi (MAN), who competed with the French navigator and mechanic, have not yet completed the Monday stage.

The field will cover a total of 7,658 kilometers in 13 stages until the January 15 Jeddah finish.

The Dakar Rally was first held in 1979 between Paris and the eponymous Senegalese capital, followed by several countries outside Europe and Africa, South America and the current host last year. Arranged by Saudi Arabia.
