World and Olympic champions arrive at the Gyula Memorial in mid-August

A day earlier than previously announced, the 10th Gyulai István Memorial Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix will take place in Székesfehérvár on August 19, at which last year's female athlete Dalilah Muhammad also undertook to start.

At the press conference of the competition on Friday, it was announced that the Gyula Memorial will be part of the world's second competition series, the 10-station Gold Section of the Continental Circle, and several songs with Diamond League value in terms of value and strength. There are only 24 songs in GYL from 2020, and those who missed out will be on the Gold battles.

Sports Director Attila Spiriev highlighted in this regard that the current classification of the competition is a huge recognition and is on a par with traditional fights such as the Tokyo, Hengelo or Kingston Athletics Parade. The sports director emphasized that this was not a coincidence, as the Gyula Memorial produced better results year after year, 16 athletes who had previously participated in the Hungarian competition won a total of 19 gold at last year's Doha World Championships. In 2019, 10 later world champions started in Gyula. Several of them have signed for this year as well.

Spiriev tried to emphasize that there is a lot of uncertainty about the coronavirus epidemic, it is not yet known whether those who promised will come. However, according to the current position, American Dalilah Muhammad, the Olympic and world champion of the women's 400 hurdles, who ran two world tops last year, and Christian Taylor of the United States and Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas, who are also regular guests, will definitely start in Fehérvár - if they return regularly. The former is the episode of the men’s triple jump, the monarch of the 2010s, the champions of the London and Rio Games and four outdoor World Cups, and the latter triumphed in the men’s 400m with a parade time of 43.48 seconds in Doha last year.

In addition to the three overseas stars, Polish Pawel Fajdek, a four-time world champion in men's hammer throwing, also promised to compete in the competition, and in addition to World Cup bronze medalist Bence Halász, he will certainly have to contend with London Olympic champion Krisztián Pars.

Both the sports director and Péter Deutsch, the chairman of the organizing committee, and Márton Gyulai, the competition director, mentioned that there will be a traditional competition, but they will be forced to impose certain restrictions, such as no more than 400 meters. The reason for this is the regulation of the International Federation (WA), as WA allows the adoption of recommendations that the Hungarian organizers do not want to make in order to preserve the seriousness of the fight. Peter Deutsch cited as an example that one of the recommendations is to start runners with handicaps, and if overtaking, athletes should wear a face mask.

On the 10th Gyula, the 100, 200, 400 meters, 110 hurdles, triple jump, discus and hammer will be the international number for men, while the 200, 400, 100 hurdles, 400 dams will be for women, long jump, discus and hammer.

The mayor of Székesfehérvár, András Cser-Palkovics, said at the press conference that the athletic battle is a very important part of the life of the city. International stars liven up the city, people can meet, talk, take photos with them. The mayor also emphasized that communities need traditions, and it is important that these traditions are not broken, so they are committed to the Gyula Memorial.
