The Spanish world star had a much tougher match than he expected with Georgia's Nikoloz Baszilasvili, who won the third set in short, and forced a nearly three and a half hour battle with Nadal triumphing in four games.

Thiem, however, was irresistible this time and won three sets, so he could win the quarterfinals for the first time at the US Open.
