US Open - Djokovic apologized, McEnroe said he became the bad boy

World-leading Novak Djokovic repented after hitting one of the line judges and being disqualified from his eighth final match on Sunday, ending the U.S. Open tennis tournament for him.

The favorite Serb, against Spanish rival Pablo Carreno Busta, angrily hit the ball in the 6: 5 lead, finding one of the line judges in the throat.

"I feel sad and empty. I talked to the line judge, luckily it's okay. I'm so sorry I caused him such a shock against my will. Now I have to deal with the frustration inside me, I'm going to learn from the case to be a better person. I'm sorry," he wrote. on the community side in this year’s 26 games, unbeaten Djokovic, who is set to win his 18th Grand Slam in New York.

Carreno Busta believed that no player would do so intentionally.

"It was just bad luck. It can't be done like that, but Novak obviously didn't want to hit anyone. That's not how I wanted to move on," the Spanish tennis player declared.

The legendary Martina Navratilova voiced her disbelief.

"It was a coincidence, but it was a stupid thing, the judges had no choice. Fortunately, the line judge had nothing wrong," the Czechoslovak-American player, 18-time GS champion, wrote on his individual.

Seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander also mentioned the bad luck:

"Such a bad thing is unimaginable. At the same time, he made a mistake because he didn't roll the ball back to the ball-picker, and that's the point. He hit it harder than he needed to because he was angry. That's not to be done," Wilander said.

Australian bastard Nick Kyrgios, as usual, posted a mocking message:

"Just imagine if I hit my throat with, say, a ball-picker. How many years would they be banned? Five? Ten? Twenty?"

The first demoted player in tennis history, John McEnroe, spoke of Djokovic becoming the bad boy in the sport.

"He couldn't stand the pressure, and from now on he'll be the bad boy of tennis forever. If he accepts that, there's a chance for further success. You'll never be able to wash that off yourself," Big Mac said. "What's worse, he used to take responsibility for his actions, but now instead of holding a press conference, he left the US Open venue and apologized on Twitter. That's not enough," he added.
