The Tiger Woods golf game brought record views and record revenue

The most watched golf event in the history of cable television was Sunday’s Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning - Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady charity doubles match.

The 18-hole meeting at the 15-time Major-Winner Woods course in Florida was held without spectators, while an average of 5.8 million watched the events on television. Intermediary Turner Sports also said the event reached its highest viewership between 5:45 pm and 6:00 pm local time, with a total of 6.3 million watched in front of the screens on the company’s four channels.

The previous record was held by the 2010 U.S. Masters match - the return of Tiger Woods following his privacy scandal - followed by 4.9 million on ESPN.

The charity campaign between the two stars of golf and American football was not only extremely successful from a television standpoint, as it far surpassed plans, raising $ 20 million. The amount was offered by the organizers to help fight the coronavirus epidemic.

The match was won by Woods and two-time Super Bowl winner, already retired Manning, with a pitch advantage over five-time Major Champion Mickelson and six-time NFL Champion Tom Brady, who qualified for the Tampa Bay Buccenneers this year from the New England Patriots.

Sunday’s gala match was two and a half weeks ahead of the restart of the professional golfers ’tournament series. The PGA Tour, which stopped in March, will continue with Colonial starting on June 11, with Woods and Mickelson in the field.
