The governor of Florida is lobbying the president for Djokovic's candidacy

Ron DeSantis, the governor of the state of Florida, asked US President Joe Biden to review Novak Djokovic's entry request to participate in the Miami Open.

Last week, the 22-time Grand Slam champion was denied entry by the United States authorities due to his lack of vaccination against the coronavirus, so Djokovic withdrew from the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments that started on Wednesday (today).

"This is unfair, unscientific and unacceptable," the governor wrote in his letter to Joe Biden, then added, "it's time to put pandemic politics aside and give the Americans what they want - let Djokovic play."

In the United States, the regulation is currently in effect until May 11, according to which only vaccinated persons can enter the country.

The Serbian classic, who has refused the vaccine for years, missed out on last year's Australian Open under memorable circumstances, where he was already training on the spot, but was eventually deported from Australia. Later, he could not participate in the US Open either.

The Miami Open starts in two weeks.
