Shane Tusup: I’m an expert on great performances

The U.S. expert told M4 Sport Sports News on Thursday he was best placed to maximize people’s performance and consider sport as his specialty.

"My job involves a lot of expertise, I studied psychology, I love sports and I know that the human body works," Tusup, who was elected coach of the year in Hungary four times, summed up his work.

He explained, early in his career, even as a recent graduate, a lot of responsibility was torn around his neck, his life took place in public, and although he didn’t know if he had done his job as best he could, the breakthroughs he had set for himself had happened.

"I would like to sit down and talk to a lot of people so that we can make the best use of Hungarian talent," said the expert, under whose guidance his wife, the swimmer Long Katinka, won three Olympic gold medals in Rio.

Asked, he tries to be a partner for the athletes in everything, it’s not a problem for him to be called with something at two at night.

"There's a lot of blood and sweat behind the processes that we can't see, that's why I celebrate so much when we're successful. I enjoy that feeling can break out of us," he added.

According to the 32-year-old American coach, his current student, Liliána Szilágyi, is a fantastic athlete whose career - albeit for a while from the "other side" - has been monitored for a long time.

"The key is that for the first time in your life, someone stands up as a partner, not only guided but also given feedback. We explain to him if we think he trains too much or just too little, there is no dusting, we are honest with each other. He does an amazing job, he develops "said Tusup about the European Championship silver medal butterfly float.

The American specialist also deals with several footballers, including Dominik Szoboszlai and Ádám Bogdán, and although American sports are closer to him, he gladly dived into this as well. "Dominik is young, he is already putting a lot on the table, indicating where he came from and where he wants to go. We are working hard, I think the end result will definitely be positive," Tusup said about the national midfielder.
