Russian Aslan Karacev, who started from the qualifiers, continued his sensational march at the Australian Open, he also defeated Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday, making it into the top four.
He was the 114th, 27-year-old player to make history in the world rankings, as he was the first man in the professional era to reach the semifinals in the first Grand Slam tournament of his career.
The first set of Tuesday's match was still won by Dimitrov, who was ranked 18th, but Karacev then rolled, allowing his rival only seven games in the next three games. The Bulgarian had to be groomed during the match - after the third act - and his hips and back were file.
Dimitrov hadn’t even lost a set in Melbourne this year before, and many considered it a chance for a final win.
Karacev will meet the champion of the battle of defending Serbian Novak Djokovic and German Alexander Zverev for the final.
The women have also finished a match so far, with Osaka Naomi winning easily against Taiwanese Xie Su-vei according to the paper form.
