Garbine Muguruza, who won the 19th place in the ladies' competition in 2016, won 6-3, 6-3 in Ukraine in two games with Jelina Svitolina. Of the nine games played in the first set, only one ended with the bettor's success, but in the second game, the two-time GS winner Spanish player played tennis more precisely and decided on a two-and-a-half-hour clash.
Unsurprisingly, Karolina Pliskova, who was ranked second in the second place, was dropped off after 31st ranked Petra Martict. The Croatian player really beat his Czech opponent smoothly, winning the first set in 39 minutes to 6-3, and even allowing Pliskova to play in the second game. Martic is next to Kai Kanepp.
