On Saturday, the retirement of the Olympic champion is not incidentally a legendary alpine skier

Olympic champion Kjetil Jansrud will end his career after Saturday’s downhill race in Kvitfjell. The 36-year-old alpine skier - a five-ring gold medalist in the Sochi super-giant ski slope - announced his decision on social media on Monday.

“Saturday will be my last race as a member of the national team,” it says in a post posted on Instagram.

The Norwegian specialist in fast numbers suffered a serious knee injury in Beaver Creek in December, when he seemed to have to skip the entire season - including the Beijing Olympics. He was eventually able to return, but only 23rd in the Chinese capital in super-G.

Jansrud completed a total of 17 World Cup seasons, winning 23 World Championship races and four small crystal balls, and was the world downhill champion in 2019. He has two more silver medals from the World Cups and two more silver and bronze medals at the Olympics.
