Olympics 2026 - Calgary residents do not ask for the Olympics

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and the company in charge of Calgary's tender have announced in a statement that they have taken note of the opinion of the residents and respect it.

"At the same time, we are very disappointed with the outcome of the referendum," the COC said in a statement, "The chance to host the world in Canada, where people can experience the power of uniting nations, would have had many benefits for all of us."

The IOC reacted to developments on Wednesday morning and expressed a clear disappointment.

"It is regrettable that the arguments about the benefits of sorting out for sport and society - and other long-term benefits - have not been given sufficient weight in the vote," he wrote in his statement, which also indicated that political debates and other uncertainties of the past have in the knowledge, the result is "not surprising".

Sion, Sapporo and Graz had withdrawn from the competition for the 2026 Winter Olympics, while the NOB had been excluded by the NOB from Turkey. Milan's and Cortina d'Ampezzo's joint application was not financially supported by the Italian Government, but Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, contributed to last week's competition. There are also obstacles before Stockholm's application.

Also, Argentina's application has arisen, and on November 1, the IOC indicated that it would be a potential location for Buenos Aires and Ushuaia in the Fireland. The application may be accepted after a study visit by the IOC.

The IOC will decide on the venue in June at the Lausanne Congress. The 2022 Winter Olympics are organized by Beijing.
