The Hungarian competitors won new medals, one gold, one silver and one bronze each, at the European Kayak-Canoe Championship taking place within the framework of the Munich Multisport European Championship on Sunday.
In the early afternoon final block, the kayaking duo Bence Nádas and Bálint Kopasz won the 500 meters, kayaker Eszter Rendessy came second in the same distance, while the kayak foursome consisting of Blanka Kiss, Anna Lucz, Zsóka Csikós, and Dóra Gazsó Alida was on the third step of the podium.
After the morning that brought three Hungarian first places, the program continued with the finals of five Olympic numbers at the Olympic Regatta Center.
The 19-year-old kayaker of UTE, Eszter Rendessy, who was first in the 1000 meters with Emese Kőhalmi a day earlier, tried in the women's "king's race", K-1 500 meters, after finishing seventh at the World Cup two weeks ago. She didn't start very well this time either, but then at half-distance she was already behind the leader Anna Pulawska from Poland, and at 300 meters she seemed to take over the lead for a short time. At the start of the race, others - such as defending champion Emma Jörgensen from Denmark - joined the fight for medals, and although Rendessy looked tired, she persevered to the finish line and was rewarded with a silver medal. Pulawska won, Jörgensen was third.
Jonatán Hajdu and Ádám Fekete finished second in the men's C-2 500 meters last year in Copenhagen, but at this year's World Championships, after injuries and illnesses, they had to settle for seventh place. Now they were fighting for the podium almost the whole time, but the last meters were better for the rivals, the Hungarians finished in fifth place. They won before the Spaniards, the Poles and the Germans.
Bence Nádas and Bálint Kopasz - the latter is treated as a real star here at the European Championships, many people ask him for an interview - they arrived in Munich as fresh world champions, and their goal was to win. At first, the race did not look like they would be able to do it, because the Germans made a strong start, and the Hungarians were only in fourth place at the halfway mark. However, in the second half of the distance, Kopašzék showed what they know, while the audience in the stands already saw the home team as the first at the finish line, they came up meter by meter, in the last twenty to thirty meters the nose of their boat was ahead, and finally, overcoming their one-boat deficit, they after the World Cup, they won a great victory again.
In the women's C-1 200 meters, Takács Kincső finished eighth, followed by the final of the women's 500-meter kayak fours.
In this edition, Hungary came to the European Championship as the defending champion, although last year a team with a completely different composition won in Poznan. Now Zsóka Csóka and Dóra Gazsó Alida sat behind Blanka Kiss and Anna Lucz, who previously won the K-2 200, and the quartet started well. At half-distance, he was behind the leading Poles, but then he got a little tired at the start, and in the end the Danes overtook him, so he could be happy with the bronze medal.
From Sunday's second final block, the men's K-1 200 meters hung out in the sense that it is no longer an Olympic number. For the sprinters, the world and European champion Balázs Birkás took to the water from the Hungarian side, but he could not have a say in the fate of the medals, he finished sixth.
