Multisport European Championship - ten years ago we performed so well in athletics

The Hungarian team finished the athletics competitions of the multisport European Championships in Munich, which ended on Sunday evening, with three medals, two silvers and one bronze, placing 23rd in the medal table.

According to the website of the Hungarian association, the national team had three podiums at the European Championships ten years ago. Then Krisztián Pars (hammer throw) won a gold medal, Deák-Nagy Marcell (400 m) a silver medal, and Zoltán Kővágó (discus throw) a bronze medal. This time, the gold was missed, but thanks to Bence Halász (hammer) and Luca Kozák (100 m hurdles), the Hungarians got two silver medals, and the walking Viktória Madarász (35 km) came third.

46 Hungarians participated in the continental competition, and among them, not only the podium finishers competed outstandingly. Réka Szilágyi was pushed off the podium in the last series in the javelin throw and finished fourth, while Xénia Krizsán finished in fifth place in the heptathlon after a weak start, and Réka Gyurátz reached the final in the hammer throw and finished in seventh position. In the running events, the sprinter Takács Boglárka made it through the preliminaries in the 100 meters, Valdó Szűcs in the 110 hurdles and Dániel Huller in the 800 meters and ran in the semi-finals.

The medal table was won by the home team with 7 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals. Although the British collected more medals (20), they were one behind the German national team in the number of gold medals. 48 countries participated in the European Championship and 29 won medals.
