Messi and Biles voted AIPS Vote of the Year, Long Fourth, Milak Eighth

Lionel Messi and Simone Biles finished in the lead at the traditional end-of-year vote of the International Sports Journalists Association (AIPS), with Katinka Long in fourth, Kristóf Milák in eighth and Győr women's handball in fifth.

The Argentine football player of the year was voted the best male athlete of the year with his Spanish club FC Barcelona, while finishing third in the Copa Americas national team, earning his sixth Gold Ball and being named FIFA Player of the Year. Finished in eighth place, Milak won the World Cup gold in the 200-meter butterfly swim in Changzhou.

Four-time Olympic champion Biles, who was voted the best last year, has won five gold medals at the World Championships in Stuttgart, making her now the 19th World Champion. He earned fourth place with his long World Championship titles of 200m and 400m.

Liverpool FC became the first winner of the Champions League football competition, and Győr finished fifth thanks to its BL success.

Monday's report from the AIPS website highlighted that the working conditions of journalists at this year's World Championships were the best for the Doha World Athletics Championships, which were also awarded by AIPS. In this ranking, the Budapest Fencing World Championship came fifth.
