The Italian three of the world's elite teams and Alpecin-Fenix, the most successful of last year's pro-continental teams (ProTeamek), will be the automatic participants in the Italian three-week round, which starts on May 6. Three more starters were decided by RCS Sport, and the free cards announced on Monday were given to Italian procontinental teams, including EOLO-Kometa: Drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli and Bardiani-CS may be there at the competition ending in Verona on May 29th.
For the past two years, he has been Hungarian in the field of the Italian three-week round: Attila Valter was 27th in 2020 and 14th last year, and he was able to wear the pink leotard for the complex first place for three days. The Groupama-FDJ cyclist is scheduled to start again this year. EOLO-Kometa was also involved in the fight in Italy last year, with Dina Márton finishing in 100th place.
“It’s very good news and we’re very happy for him, but he wasn’t surprised as the team deserved to be fully involved in Girón,” Dina told MTI.
"What the guys did in last year's race - and I have to pull myself out of it because I'm not happy with my performance last year - was huge. As one of the best procontinental lines, we deserve to show ourselves again," he said.
He said about his own performance: in his competitions this year, his mentality and fighting for the team were appropriate, but he was not satisfied with his performance.
"I have to fight to be there because they'll want to take the top eight, and it's so good. I have two more months, I'm getting better and better, so I'm confident," he explained.
"I am extremely happy to have been invited to the Italian circuit. For the race I dreamed of racing, the victory I managed to win and which opened up new horizons for us last year," said the former cyclist, the two-time Giro d'Italia winner. Ivan Basso, the team's sports manager, is on the EOLO-Kometa website.
The owner, Alberto Contador, also acknowledged the news with great satisfaction, pointing out that Giro’s attendance is key to the season.
“I think we could even improve on last year’s performance this year and be in the lead,” stressed the seven-time Grand Tour-winning Spanish team leader.
During the opening stage of the Giro, the field will run from Budapest to Visegrád, then there will be a time trial in the capital, and finally the competitors will cover a good 200 kilometers between Kaposvár and Balatonfüred. Hungary has not been affected by any of the three-week competitions before.
