Giro d'Italia - Team wants to start Attila Valter

The CCC team wants Attila Valter to start at the Giro d'Italia Road Cycling Tour in May, the first three stages of which will take place in Hungary.

Valter finished third in the Tour de Hongrie in the CCC account team, the Development Team, this year, winning the Hungarian time trial championship, then winning the Tour de l'Avenir juniors, and one-day competitions for the age group. he finished fourth in the Lombardy circuit.

"Two years ago, the impossible category would have been the idea of being on a World Tour team, I thought it was just a fairy tale. I had a super year at CCC Development Team that helped me get into the big team and still want to take the stairs by myself "the 21-year-old said at a news conference Friday.

He stated that it was "an important and big step" to join the World Tour team, but from here it would be a huge step to enter the eight-man line-up at the Italian Tournament.

"It's not a burden for me, and I want to get into it not only because of the home run, though it would be a sporting history, but also to be a useful member of the band, respecting my teammates and the whole team. and I quickly pick up the rhythm of the World Tour, "Valter said. He added that since he had not yet played in the highest category fight with CCC, the team could not announce that he would be there on Giron. However, you do everything in your power and humanity to move forward so the CCC can say: it is ready.

Valter said that MTI would be interested in the fact that because of his stronger races, his race days will be reduced and he may spend even more time preparing for home. He said he would travel to two training camps in Spain in the coming weeks.

Piotr Wadecki, CCC's sports director, told me he had the opportunity to see the first leg, the Budapest time trial, which will be special and beautiful.

He recalled, followed last year Valter's excellent results in the Slovakian circuit, and the young Hungarian cyclist drew his attention especially when he came third in one of the toughest stages and finished with the stage winner Julian Alaphilippe. The main sponsor, CCC, has wanted to be a Hungarian cyclist for years.

"Attila is very strong, and this year's development is really impressive, and when he won the Tour de l'Aveniren, I knew he had a place in the team," Wadecki said.

He questioned the teams announcing their starting line two or three weeks before the start of the Giron, but there is already a generous list of 13-14 names, including Attila Valter, last year's European Champion, and this year's World Champion silver medalist Matteo. Like Trentin or the Russian Ilnur Zakarin, who finished third in Vuelta in Spain in 2017.

"I can't promise you that you will start at the Italian Tournament right now, but I really hope it will. We will work to get him in the best shape possible and put him in a program to get him into our eighth race." He said. The sports director mentioned that the CCC is also aware of how great it would be for a Hungarian cyclist to participate in the Giro d'Italia's Great Ride in Hungary.

Looking ahead, he said he believed that Valter could become one of the best mountain goers in years. He mentioned that the CCC would also like to attend the May Tour de Hongrie.

Máriusz Révész, the active government commissioner for Hungary, chairman of the GiroHungary2020 organizing committee, said that Giro will be visiting the region for the first time.

"We want to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity. Many famous cyclists, including the three-time world champion Peter Sagan, will also start, but they need lovable Hungarian racers, and he is one such as Attila Valter."

"We are confident that Attila will carry this heavy burden on his shoulders. He is hopeful that if he is well prepared for spring, he will be there at the start. And maybe in a few years' time he will be able to lift this wonderful trophy high" Giro winner Trofeo Senza Finere.

Zsigmond Nagy, director of the National Sports Agency, emphasized that, to the delight of the Hungarian people, they are organizing an event that has never been in Hungary before and hope that after László Bodrogi they can help Hungarian cycling to another Hungarian Giro starter.

For the past eight years, no Hungarian has been at the highest level, but next year Valter will be at the CCC, while Barnabás Peák will be at Mitchelton-Scott. Before that, Bálint Szeghalmi competed among the best in the Lampre 2011.

The first three stages of next year's 103rd Giro d'Italia will be held in Hungary from 9 to 11 May, before the field continues in Italy. The first stage will be an 8.6 kilometer Budapest time race, followed by the Budapest-Győr and Székesfehérvár-Nagykanizsa sections. Hungary has not been affected by any of the big three-week races before.
