Fucsovics knocked out Djokovic in the Wimbledon quarterfinals

Márton Fucsovics said goodbye to the Wimbledon tennis championship in the quarterfinals after being knocked out by world-leading Novak Djokovic in three games on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old Nyíregyháza player has already achieved the best result of his career in the grass field Grand Slam tournament by reaching eight: former Jannik Sinner of Italy, Jirí Vesely of the Czech Republic, ranked ninth in the 19th place of the former junior champion Fucsovics. Argentine Diego Schwartzman and fifth-ranked Russian Andrei Rublev said goodbye.

Defending champion Djokovic, who drove to his record-breaking twentieth GS tournament victory, he had previously met twice in his career, and although he missed both times, he also won a set against the Serbian star in the first round of the 2018 US Open and the eighth final of the 2019 Doha Tournament.

Fucsovics clashed with the current world leader once before, in 2019 - with Djokovic.

At the beginning of the first act of their Wednesday match on the center court, the Hungarian player played tennis with many mistakes, extremely uncertainly, so his rival led to 5: 0 after 18 minutes. Fucsovics then brought his serve, passing set balls, then taking two more game balls, taking his world first serve and soon standing 5: 3 on the scoreboard. Djokovic made no mistake in his next serving game and took advantage of his sixth set ball after 42 minutes.

The next game brought a balanced fight, with both tennis players bringing their organ to 4: 4, but in the ninth game Djokovic broke and then won his own in the tenth, leading to 2: 0 after an hour and a half.

The third set began with Djokovic’s break, after which none of the players lost a serve boom, although there was a chance to do so several times. Fucsovics, for example, scored a total of five breakballs in two games - the second boom, the Serb serving was 0:40 - but he couldn't take advantage. The match lasted 2 hours 19 minutes.
