Satisfied with his own result and with positive experiences and memories, EOLO-Kometa rider Erik Fetter, who finished 83rd overall in the Italian road cycling race, ended his first Giro d'Italia career with positive experiences and memories.
The 22-year-old Hungarian time trial champion told the public media that he feels that he has "excelled" himself, that he has achieved results that he would have liked in advance, and that his team was also fully satisfied with his performance.
"Preliminarily, I thought that I wouldn't do so well, or that in the third week I would be fighting for survival, but luckily that didn't happen, in fact, I even managed to go well in some stages," said Fetter, adding that he looked forward to the start, because he was constantly faced with new challenges, and maybe this is the reason why he didn't even feel "that long" the first three-week fight of his career.
"It was a very good and useful experience, to win a stage or to get a better overall result, you definitely have to work harder and harder, but this acts as a motivation for me," said the rider, who also revealed that his role in the team changed from day to day , in fact, "there was a surprise every day at the team meeting when everyone was assigned the task".
"I couldn't single out any of them, they all had their own beauty and I feel like I managed to do them all. In Vincenzo Albanese's third place in the stage, I had a bigger task, I had to make sure he got the right amount of refreshments at key moments on that stage, and he's very good it was a feeling to help him get on the podium," said Fetter.
The time trial champion also mentioned that they met many Hungarian fans throughout the Giro, which started from Hungary, they always saw the red-white-green flags along the way, and for them "it was a great pride that so many people in Hungary are interested in cycling".
Fetter believed that his team had a long-term plan with him, and he has now managed to prove it, so in the future he is preparing to be able to compete in at least one three-week circuit every year.
