Dominic Thiem wouldn’t help tennis players in trouble

While Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal help tennis players in trouble, Dominic Thiem thinks no one is at risk of starvation, the Austrian class would therefore be more likely to help those in real need.

Not a fan of the idea of helping tennis players in trouble due to the coronavirus epidemic is Dominic Thiem of Austria, third in the world rankings for men.

World-leading Novak Djokovic announced eight days ago that he had already negotiated with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to jointly create a financial fund to help top 100 players between the 250th and 1000th places, who only make use of the prize money available in tournaments.

“I don’t know of any tennis player struggling to survive, none of them will starve to death,” said 26-year-old Thiem. "However, there are many of them at the same time for whom sports are not the first and do not live to be professional. I don't understand why I should give them money, I would rather support those who really need it," said the three-time Grand Slam finalist, adding one neither top player received his fortune as a gift, and they all struggled hard for success.
