Djokovic is resting for the US Open

Novak Djokovic, a 20-time Serbian Grand Slam champion tennis player, will not compete until the U.S. Open, which begins at the end of the month.

The world announced on Monday that he would not be playing in Cincinnati next week, where he would have started as a defending champion.

"I need a little more time to regenerate after an exhausting journey from the Australian Open in January to the Tokyo Olympics. Now I'm focusing on the US Open and spending time with my family," the 34-year-old said.

Djokovic has won three GS races of the year so far, and since the Australian Rod Laver’s march in 1969, he may be the first to triumph in all four major tournaments within a year. The so-called Golden Slam, on the other hand, can no longer come together for him, as he was knocked out in the semi-finals of the Tokyo Games by the later gold medalist Alexander Zverev from Germany.

He eventually left Japan without a medal as he also missed out on the five-ring bronze match against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta and then stepped back from the mixed doubles bronze match, citing a shoulder injury.
