Brilliant Federer! Seven matchballs in the Swiss inverted!

Roger Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, qualified for the semifinals at the Australian Open Tennis Championships in Melbourne with seven match balls.

The Swiss star met American Tennys Sandgren on Tuesday and was ranked 100th in the second and third sets. The then-38-year-old Federer, who had been severely compromised at the time, was warned of profanity and then went to the locker room for longer medical treatment.

The real drama came in the fourth act, when, as a surprise player in the Grand Slam, he was unable to live with three matchballs at 5: 4 and in the shortcut that led to 6-3, he killed four more. Then, in the final game, the six-time champion broke his tired rival at 3: 2 and threw out the match, which lasted 3 hours 31 minutes.

Federer will meet defending champion Novak Djokovic or Milos Raonic between the four, with the Serbian and Canadian tennis quarterfinals starting at 9:15 am at the Rod Laver Arena.

Results, quarter final:

men:

Federer (Swiss, 3) - Sandgren (American) 6: 3, 2: 6, 2: 6, 7: 6 (10-8), 6: 3
