Australian Open - Fucsovics celebrated with marathon victory

Celebrating his 29th birthday, Márton Fucsovics made it to the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament with a five-win victory.

On Monday, the 55th place in the world rankings clashed with Marc Polmans in front of the Hungarian audience - for the first time in his life - who is 125th in the ranking. After three breaks, surprisingly, the opponent who was on the main board with the free card caught the rhythm better and brought the opening set after 46 minutes.

However, the Hungarian player got himself together and took the stably hitting Australian servant three times in the second game and then twice in the third game, so he was already in the lead at 2:13. "Come on, Marci!" or "Hajrá Magyarország!" encouragement.

However, South African-born Polmans - who made it to the second round at the Australian Open last year - didn’t give up, squeezing out the acronym in a huge battle in the fourth act and barely leveling off.

After three and a half hours, the parties started their last game, Polmans immediately broke, but the leader of the Hungarian Davis Cup national team caught up with him at 2: 2. Fucsovics broke again in a boom that brought 15 ball passes, then outsourced the turnaround meeting at 5: 3, which lasted 4 hours 13 minutes.

Among the 64 players, the 17th highlighted three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland is waiting for the Hungarian player.
