Attila Valter would prefer to leave at the Giro d'Italia

Attila Valter would prefer to compete in the Giro d’Italia road cycling race, although he sees Vuelta as having a better result in Spain.

“If it was up to me, I would definitely start at Girón because it’s closer to my heart, but Vuelta might be better because it’s later and it would be easier to get a good result,” the CCC team athlete said on current channel M1 on Tuesday.

According to the international competition calendar modified due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Italian round will take place from October 3-25. and Spanish will take place from 20 October to 8 November.

Valter added, he already really wants to know his team’s decision, but in a week or two he still has to make sure which cyclist can start in which race.

For Valter, the Vuelta in Burgos and then the Polish circuit - the former in the Europe Tour and the latter in the World Tour series - marked a return after a forced break due to the pandemic.

As he said, after a long omission, he had high hopes for these fights for him, but closed them with mixed feelings.

"It didn't go as well as I expected. I may have been over-enthusiastic, trained and prepared too much. I lacked freshness in the first races. Luckily, my strength came day by day and I started to feel the pace of the race better and better," he explained.

Valter explained that there were no huge expectations on the part of the team, but he wanted to perform well in both races. In Spain, a fall also set him back right in the first leg, after which he didn’t feel really good for days. He was pleased with the 27th place in the overall standings in Poland, although he noted that the result could have been better.

He will start on Wednesday in Gran Piedmont and on Saturday in one of the five biggest one-day laps in Lombardy. As he currently feels very tired due to the two recent fights and the many trips, he would also be happy to arrive at the finish line with the field on Wednesday.
