Defending champions France will face Argentina in the final of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar after defeating Morocco 2-0 in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
This meeting was the 19th World Cup match for the French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, so he overtook the German Manuel Neuer in the all-time ranking, with whom he became the goalkeeper who played the most World Cup matches.
It was a great start for the defending champions, who took the lead very quickly, forcing their African opponents, who started in a defensive formation, to force their attacks. The Moroccans did not touch either before or after the scored goal, first Lloris had to hit a long shot to the side, then Zijecs shot wide of the goal after a good jump from a promising position. The French response was not long in coming, Giroud took advantage of his defender's mistake and hit the left post from 13 meters. In the middle of the half, the momentum of both teams waned, as a result, the pace decreased and minor, typically tactical, irregularities increased. Approaching the goal, Tchouameni started with the ball obtained in the middle and brilliantly teased Mbappé, who was running at breakneck speed on the left side, but this time the star striker could not pass the ball into the goal, and the repetition was spun by Giroud near the goal. The Moroccans looked tired, so the game was controlled by the French at this stage, and as soon as the opponent pushed them back to their own area, they immediately tried to keep the ball and started to rebuild their action from the basics. Nearing the end of the game, el-Jamik's scissor shot after a corner caused alarm among the French fans, but the ball did not go into the net after the shot, which was without a doubt brilliantly executed.
During the break, the Moroccan national team captain Walid Regragui had to make a forced substitution for the second time, so the pre-assigned five-man defense was significantly transformed: Dari started in Nájef Aguerd's place, then another player had to be sent to the field in place of Száisz and then Mazrauj. The French started the second half very restrained, while Morocco tried to put a lot of emphasis on attacks. In the first ten minutes, the French were almost stuck in front of their goal, and the Moroccans had several good chances to equalize, but the successful completion was often missed. Didier Deschamps' team could try to threaten with free kicks, but could not increase its advantage, while the rival tried to outplay the French defense with creative attacks from time to time, despite this, they were still one goal behind with 15 minutes to go.
Thanks to Kolo Muani, who came on as a substitute in the first half, the advantage of the defending champion increased to two goals, which deservedly won the place in the final, holding the match almost the entire time.
