The Italian football president is in favor of continuing the season

The President of the Italian Football Association has spoken out against declaring the battles for the 2019/202 league to be over, as has been done in the Netherlands and France.

Such a decision, according to Gabriele Gravina, would mean the death of Italian football, the Football Italia portal quoted the sports chief as saying. Serie A point hunts were halted indefinitely in early March due to a coronavirus outbreak. No decision has yet been made on the resumption, with authorities allowing so much at the end of last week that football teams could train again from 18 May.

Gravina's position is to play the remaining matches of the season as soon as possible. Mentioning the financial aspects, the president said that premature closing of the league would cost Italian football € 700-800 million.

“If we continue the season in front of empty stands, the damage would be around € 300 million, if the tournament went on with spectators, it would be € 100-150 million,” Gravina said.
