Shane Tusup takes in Óbuda, Olympic champion coach launches special program!

At Thursday's press conference to formalize the deal, Bence Szabó, sports director of the long-established club in Óbuda, founded in 1887, said they have talented players who can reach national team levels, even if this statement sounds bold in the case of a third-class association.

"We feel like we've found a coach in the person of Shane Tusup who, in addition to the work of a professional staff, can give players the 4th necessary plus." - said the sports director, adding: Tusup deals with six footballers selected by the professional staff, who provide him with eating advice and direct their conditional and mental preparation.

Head coach Szabolcs Kemenes said that since the beginning of October, the American coach has been present in several matches of the team. The workout is developed jointly, but in his own field, Tusup gets a free hand.

"There is no professional staff that knows everything, so we were happy to have a professional who brought a different kind of knowledge and has already proven it. There is no professional jealousy between us, we have a common goal," the head coach emphasized.

"It's a huge thing in my career to be able to participate in the life of a club with such a long tradition. My experience so far is positive, we work in great harmony with the staff, I can already feel the change in the mentality of the players," Tusup said.

The two players present at the press conference, Richard Rabatin and Áron Borvető, highlighted that the presence of Shane Tusup is a huge opportunity to live with. They stressed that they already feel the influence of the American coach on their self-confidence and mentality.

Bence Szabó also talked about the fact that in the future there are two women's water polo players in the club to join the Tusup group.

Asked by MTI, the sports director said the agreement has no end date as long as it works, they will continue to work together.

Shane Tusup was the husband and coach of swimmer Long Katinka for many years, with whom they returned home from the 2016 Rio Olympics with three gold and one silver medal. He has been elected Hungarian coach of the year four times, and is currently helping the youth Olympic champion swimmer Liliana Szilágyi, the world championship bronze medal swimmer Péter Holoda, while he is also working with Dominik Szoboszlai, Balázs Dzsudzsák and Ádám Bogdán.
