From Borussia Dortmund to Benfica, Julian Weigl is a German national football player.
"Julian has signaled to us that he would like to switch, and we have accepted your request based on his merits," Michael Zorc, sports director of the German club, said in a statement.
The five-time national midfielder's contract would expire in a year and a half.
Weigl is expected to be in Lisbon in the first days of the New Year, where he will have to undergo a medical examination before the club is finalized. Benfica has indicated that it will cost € 20 million to acquire the player, but has not provided details on the duration of the cooperation.
The 24-year-old footballer came to Dortmund from 1860 Munich in 2015. Since then he has made 171 appearances for Borussia. Has not played in the German national team since March 2017.
