Messi: there is no question that Benzema will win the Ballon d'Or this year

According to the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, there is no question that Karim Benzema, Real Madrid's Champions League-winning forward, will win the Ballon d'Or this year.

The Argentine star footballer himself was a victim of the great form of the French attacker, as his team, Paris Saint-Germain, was sent off by the Spanish guard in the last 16, with Benzema scoring a hat-trick in the second leg. Benzema scored another four goals in the quarter-finals against Chelsea, and three Benzema goals in the semi-finals against Manchester City. In the end, Real won the final 1-0 against Liverpool, and although Benzema did not score that goal, everyone agrees that he was one of the main custodians of the success.

The French striker also became the top scorer in La Liga, and thus greatly contributed to the royal guard's new Spanish championship title.

"There's no question, it's clear that Benzema's year is extremely spectacular. I don't think there can be any question who will win this year," Messi told an Argentinian TV channel.

Messi may even face Benzema at the World Cup in Qatar starting on November 21, and he said that he thinks the French champions are the favorites for the tournament.

"France is a great team, we saw that four years ago. I think the fact that they were knocked out early in the European Championship last year (against Switzerland in the round of 16) made them stronger. Argentina can fight with anyone and will make it difficult for all their rivals. This of course it doesn't mean we have a chance. It means we're going to fight." - he said.

The 34-year-old Messi is currently in Bilbao preparing with the national team for Wednesday's Intercontinental Super Cup match in London, in which the European Championship winners Italy will face the defending Copa America champions Argentina.
