Messi is bored with football without spectators

Lionel Messi, a world-class Argentine footballer from Barcelona, said the closed-air match had the atmosphere of being in training, so he called football without fans awful.

The 33-year-old striker said he took over the Pichichi award for the king of goals from the previous league season on Monday.

Messi - who finished with 25 hits - highlighted that playing without fans has an extremely negative impact on the sport.

"It was awful to play without fans. When you don't see anyone in the auditorium, you feel like you're in training and it's very hard to get into the game, especially at the beginning of the game," Messi said.

The sports world, such as La Liga’s spring shutdown due to the pandemic, had an extremely bad impact on the Catalan team, which at the time topped the league table, but eventually Real Madrid won the league title in the sequel to the already empty stands. Barca ended his previous season with an ugly defeat when he was 8-2 behind Lisbon in the Champions League quarter-final against later winner Bayern Munich. Barcelona hasn’t been performing as expected since then: the band hasn’t started in the league as badly as it has been this time 33 years, is currently in fifth place in the league and hasn’t been able to finish as a group winner in the BL after 2006. Messi doesn’t shine in the usual way either: he has been successful nine times in 17 matches of the season - five times out of penalties - the weakest individual indicator since the 2007/08 season.

The attacker has repeatedly stressed that it is "very ugly" to play football in front of empty stands, and it is best to admit that, unlike before, they play much more balanced matches and are independent of the opponent, it is difficult for them to win.

“The pandemic has changed football in many ways and made it worse,” he said, then expressed hope that this period would soon end and spectators could return to the stands.

In Spain, spectators have not been able to go to football stadiums since March, but they may be able to return in April after the majority of the population has been vaccinated against the coronavirus by then. According to the Spanish press, the first match to be watched again will be the final of the Spanish King’s Cup postponed from the end of May, with Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao battling each other on April 4th.
