Matthäus is pleased with Darda's return

Lothar Matthäus, the 150-time German national team, welcomed the re-appointment of Pál Dárdai as the head coach of the Hertha BSC football team on Monday.

“Pál Dárdai and Arne Friedrich as sports director - this seems like a great plan for an excellent club,” wrote world champion Matthäus on the Sky TV channel. "Like Josep Guardiola of Barcelona, no one knows the Berlin club, the fans and the media like the Hungarian coach. Besides, it's very cool to be able to work until the summer of 2022."

The German class, who previously worked as the federal captain of the Hungarian national team, said that under the leadership of Dárdai, Hertha will hopefully play not only successful, but also spectacular football, as befits a capital club.

"Compared to its first period, it currently has the right staff," Matthäus explained.

The Berlin association announced on Monday afternoon that the 44-year-old Dárdai will take over the management of the ensemble, and Zsolt Petry will also be a member of the staff as a goalkeeper. Between 2015 and 2019, the Hungarian specialist already managed the first team of Berliners.

The club’s managers fired previous coach Bruno Labbadia and club manager Michael Preetz on Sunday. Hertha have scored just one point in the last four rounds and 14th in the Bundesliga, just two points ahead of Cologne.
