Mainz will be welcomed by Bayern Munich in the first round of this year's Budesliga

After a two-week hiatus, the German football league continues this weekend, in the 14th round of which defending champion and frontrunner Bayern Munich will host Mainz in Sunday night’s final match.

The defending team in the Champions League, according to club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, will continue to try to prove what it did last year, namely that it is the number one team in every series. Although the many matches were felt at the end of last year, the standard of Bayern's play has fallen somewhat compared to before, but the ability to fight, the will, was still in the players. The Bavarian team had to stand up to the disadvantage several times and either managed to turn it over or save the match to a draw so they could continue their battles for the Bundesliga from the top of the table. Crucial to this was the fact that on December 19, he also won 2-1 away from the draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

This time, given the balance of power and the position on the table, it will be a much easier task, as Mainz has only scored six points so far, making it the penultimate in the league. Head coach Jan-Moritz Lichte was ousted from Ádám Szalai's team on Monday due to poor performance, and Jan Siewert, who has been involved in the club's recruitment so far, is temporarily leading the first team.

Second-place Leverkusen will start 2021 in Frankfurt and third-place RB Leipzig in Stuttgart with the same number of points. In the latter team - in which Péter Gulácsi and Willi Orbán regularly play a role - Dominik Szoboszlai from Red Bull Salzburg is not yet able to perform. The twenty-year-old midfielder will be deployed in the next round at the earliest after the formalities and paperwork have been settled.

Tenth-placed Freiburg - Ralland Sallai’s team - will play at Hoffenheim’s home, while the dotted-out Dortmund, which is currently only fifth, will host Wolfsburg. Borussia’s professional staff can even count on Erling Haaland on Sunday, who has recovered from a muscle rupture he suffered in early December. The twenty-year-old Norwegian striker has scored ten times in eight games in the Bundesliga this season, with Dortmund winning only once in four stakes without him.

The unbeaten army driver Schalke will be a guest of Hertha in Berlin. Christian Gross, who officially occupied the small bench in Gelsenkirchen last Sunday, put it this way: a perfect start to 2021 will be needed to fight to stay in.
