La Liga - Xavi: Barca is back and has a bright future ahead

Barca is back, said FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernández after his team beat Real Madrid 4-0 at the Spanish Football Championship’s Sunday night perpetual tournament at El Clásico, home of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The former class player of the Catalan Guard, who took over the professional work from the Dutchman Ronald Koeman, who was fired last November, said he was very pleased with what he saw after a match his team had dominated from the start and could have won by more than four goals.

“I’m happy it was a pleasant evening,” Xavi said. "Today we showed that we can fight a great Real Madrid in our own stadium as well. It was a great performance that can encourage us and promise a beautiful future."

According to the expert, they were much better than Real in a spectacular match.

"I enjoyed it because I'm not only the coach of Barca, but also a lifelong fan of the club, for whom such evenings are unforgettable." he said.

He also pointed out that Barcelona had not been able to beat Real Madrid for three years, and was ahead of its ancient rival in a series of four champions before Sunday.

"It was important to put an end to this negative series, success will give the team a big boost spiritually, it will help us to move forward," said Xavi, who led the band from ninth to third so that the last week in the league, he scored 24 goals and made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

"It means more than four goals to me how my players fought, how they ran and gave their all to win. It's inspiring," Xavi said. "I don't think it could even be a championship title. Real Madrid has a 12-point advantage and we started to climb back too late, but the future is bright for us."

It was the 184th clash in the La Liga between the two teams: with 76 Madrid successes, it was the 73rd Barca victory.
