Coronavirus - The biggest opponent would give Liverpool the title

Manchester City footballer Ilkay Gündogan would find it sporting for Liverpool to get the league title at the end of a truncated season.

The 29-year-old German midfielder of the defending ensemble explained in a statement to ZDF television that an athlete must always behave fairly.

“Yes, for me, that would be entirely appropriate,” Gündogan replied to the question of whether their biggest rival, current list leader Liverpool, would be awarded the league title even if they failed to play the entire season.

The Premier League is sure to be suspended until April 30 due to the coronavirus epidemic, and the continuation is uncertain for the time being. Representatives of the clubs will meet next Friday and, according to English press reports, it is almost certain that the forced break will be extended. According to Gündogan, they are faced with a difficult decision because the positions of the clubs differ depending on their current position.

Gündogan highlighted that if English clubs followed the example of Juventus or just Borussia Dortmund and reduced player pay, he would accept the decision.

“I find this appropriate, it goes without saying, but there’s no mention of that in England yet,” he said.

Leading Liverpool’s advantage over runner-up Manchester City is 25 points, the former nine and the last ten have not played yet. Liverpool have two wins from winning the championship again after 30 years.
