Champions League - Dortmund would continue their great streak

Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea face each other for the first time, but they await the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday with completely different signs.

After the World Cup, the German team got off to a great start in the new year, winning all six of their matches so far. In addition, he scored at least twice in each of the five league and one cup matches, i.e. he owes his success primarily to his attacking football. With the march, the yellow-blacks are already in third place in the Bundesliga, and their deficit has been reduced to three points against the defending champion and leader Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund is traditionally good at home, they have lost only four of their last 21 matches at the Westfalenstadion in the BL, but at the same time they tend to suffer against English teams. Three of the four failures are linked to island groups. The superiority of the English against Dortmund is shown even more by the fact that the German team has remained winless in the last ten such matches in the European cup series, and has also lost eight times. The last time BVB was able to beat an English team was in March 2016, when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Europa League thanks to a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is currently playing for Chelsea.

The London team is looking forward to the continuation of the Champions League in a particularly bad shape, as it has won only three of its last 14 games, and it is precisely with scoring goals that its problems accumulate. The Blues scored only four times in their previous eight meetings, were eliminated from the FA Cup and slipped back to tenth place in the Premier League.

Despite the failure of the past period, the club management still trusts head coach Graham Potter, but if they fail to improve in the BL as well, then the bench could easily shake under the specialist. In any case, Chelsea are not doing well in Germany, where they have won just three of their previous 11 matches. M4 Sport will broadcast this meeting live on Wednesday.

Among the other participants in Wednesday's duel, Club Brugge has already made history by reaching the elimination stage in the BL for the first time in its existence, while Benfica wants to repeat last year's feat by reaching the last eight. The Belgian team is particularly suffering this season, as it is only fourth in the league and has already been eliminated from the cup. The primary reason for this is the poor performance at home, where they have not won in seven matches.

The Portuguese guard, on the other hand, confidently leads the championship of their country, and this year they are also in great form, winning six of their eight matches, without even conceding a goal. In addition, he had a 2-2 draw against Sporting in the league stage, as well as a 1-1 draw against Braga in the Portuguese Cup with 11 points behind. The rematch of these two duels will be held on March 7.
