CAS: You can start in the Champions League in Manchester City

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has lifted Manchester City’s ban, so last year’s English champion could still be there on the European Cup stage in the future.

CAS explained on Monday that the club did not violate the rules of financial fair play, but at the same time imposed a fine of ten million euros on the association for not cooperating with the European Football Association (UEFA) in the investigation.

UEFA has launched an investigation against Manchester City following the Football Leaks leak. Internal correspondence and club documents released by the website revealed that the Arab-owned association had been illegally funded and deceived by UEFA for years, although all this was denied by the club. The association did not cooperate with UEFA during the investigation, according to which the irregularities took place between 2012 and 2016.

The basis of financial fair play is that an association cannot spend more than its income.

In February, UEFA finally excluded Manchester City from the European Cup stage for two seasons and imposed a € 30 million fine on the club as an additional penalty.

Manchester City is currently an eighth-finalist in the Champions League, winning the first act of the 13-time-winning duel against Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, making it a chance in the rematch on 7 August. If he fights to advance, he will be there in the final eight in Lisbon. In the Premier League, the team is second with 12 points ahead of third Chelsea, so their BL start in terms of league position is already assured for next season.
